Keanu Reeves is set to join the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, adding another exciting franchise to his repertoire. According to multiple sources, he has confirmed that he will provide the voice for the beloved character Shadow.
Last week, Paramount had an exciting CinemaCon presentation where they showcased the first footage for Sonic 3. During Sonic 2, it was revealed that Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey, experienced a period of depression and physical decline.
However, he manages to regain his confidence and motivation by inventing Shadow the Hedgehog, a character who debuted in the 2001 video game Sonic Adventure 2.
The character is quite different from Sonic, with a darker and edgier personality, yet possessing abilities similar to the hero’s.
The Sonic movie franchise from Paramount began in 2020 with Sonic the Hedgehog. The film exceeded expectations, earning $319 million worldwide.
It became a popular success in the video game genre, which had previously faced challenges at the box office. In 2022, Sonic 2 was released, earning an impressive $404 million worldwide.
Director Jeff Fowler has helmed all three movies, with Ben Schwartz providing the voice for Sonic and James Mardsen playing Tom Wachowski, Sonic’s human friend.
Reeves has consistently landed significant roles in recent years. He recently appeared in John Wick: Chapter 4 and returned to his iconic character of Neo in The Matrix: Resurrections, released in 2021.
In upcoming projects, he will be seen in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, where he portrays a guardian angel and has a minor role as the renowned assassin in John Wick Presents: Ballerina, a spinoff featuring Ana De Armas.
