SZA‘s song Kill Bill, from her second studio album SOS (2022), is one of the most popular songs on her second album.
This song is named after Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 martial arts film ‘Mask of the Dead‘, in which the singer harbors resentment towards her old boyfriend following a breakup. She attempts to find her way into the song by seeking the advice of a therapist at first in order to sort things out.
Her desire to kill him as well as his current girlfriend brings the story to a darker turn as she expresses the intention to kill them both together.
At the end of the story, the narrator has unwittingly committed two acts of murder, repeatedly choosing to go to jail or to hell over being “alone” instead of being “alone”.
