“Civil War” made a significant impact at the box office.

Variety said the premiere was impressive and expected to debut with around $26 million.

In this $50 million film directed by Alex Garland, a team of military-embedded journalists find themselves in a race against time to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel factions take over the White House.

The thriller features a star-studded cast, including Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, and Jesse Plemons. It has been described as a “terrifying premonition of American collapse.” However, some critics found its political message to be “muddled.”

According to Johnny Oleksinski of The Post, the movie was “torturous” and “overrated,” with a lack of direction in its script and monotonous acting.

Just two weeks ago, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” dominated the charts, surpassing even “Civil War.” It made $4 million on Friday.

The sci-fi action movie is expected to make around $15 million by the end of its third weekend, surpassing the $150 million mark in domestic earnings. This year, it will be the third movie to reach that milestone, following “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Dune: Part Two.”

After that came the animated comedy “Kung Fu Panda 4” and the action-thriller “Monkey Man.”
